Ziyanda Ntshikose (Gr 8) says:

The Things I like about my school are the activities going on, activities like outings. Our outings are always fun but the main purpose is not to have fun but to learn something at the end of the day. I also like the way the teachers teach us, some of the teachers make the lesson fun just to make it easy for us to catch on and not to forget at the same time. At school I am always free and comfortable because I know that nothing can harm me.

Yandiswa Nkanti (Gr 8) says:

What I like about my school is that you need to work hard so that at the end of the day you could get good results, that shows that you have worked hard.

Sanele Mchashi (Gr 8) says:

There are things I like about my school, things like the way we are taught, we are taught about life skills and styles. The most of all are the outings we had, they were cool and fun, also wishing that we aren't the only school that goes to those outings. Also the competitions my school my lovely school enters benefit us a  lot for example one of my grade mate Ambesa on the 26th June 2011 will represent our school and our province in Gauteng in Ba swa le metse which is the Department of water affairs.I also like the way teachers lead their classes, the way they control conflicts in and out of their classrooms. The way they are to us, even if someone gets sick at school they turn themselves to parents and doctors at times after that incident they then teach us what to do in similar incidents. I was once a victim myself and my teacher helped me.

Ayabonga Daniso (Gr 7) says:

The things I like about my school is if there is a person that misbehaves she/he gets punished by skipping the lesson, sweep the classroom or by picking up papers. The thing that I like most about my school is that we have a computer lab that we can get information from on the Internet.

The thing that I like the most about my school is that naughty bullies are punished and the pupils at my school do not fight a lot. the second thing is that sometimes we go out on excursions free of charge, without paying any cent,

The things that I like about my school are these:

• We have a feeding scheme
• We have Scholar patrols and class rappers
• We have different kinds of sports and a tennis court
• We also have a computer lab that helps us a lot

FEEDING SCHEME


Most of the pupils at Siyabulela benefit a lot from the feeding scheme because the majority of the children come to school on empty stomachs not because they want to because of the situation back home. During the day the learners get a break from academics and go to feed their stomachs. Most parents of these children are unemployed the school has dedicated time to support the feeding scheme programme to be a success for our students. The ladies in the kitchen dedicate hours to cook and dish for the students.

COMPUTER LAB


Khanya brought new life and hope for our students, our students now have access to computers and Internet. They stopped fearing computer and technology because now the are part of the new world. Students from Grades R-8 are now able to use the existing lab. However the computer lab co-ordinate's Mr Mdemka and Mr Guzana have emphasised on the need of getting another computer lab. ""Getting another lab will give more access for the students as we are a large school. The programmes are user friendly and children understands them very well.                                                     

BACKGROUND OF THE SCHOOL

Siyabulela Primary School is situated in Langa, a black impoverished township in the Western Cape about 15 km from the Cape Town city centre. The school community is a disadvantage community. About 70% of the people live below poverty line because they are virtually unemployed. They have to contend with rampant crime almost everyday. despite all these hardships the community is very committed in education and development of its children. There are very sound relations between the community and the teachers and cooperation amongst all stakeholders is very evident.

The school was established in 1980 with 10 teachers and about 600 learners. The school has grown tremendously with 25 educators, 5 non-educators and about 846 learners. The school offers different kinds of sport including soccer, rugby, athletics, cricket as well as music. With those sport codes, the school does not have proper fields especially soccer, rugby, athletics as well as cricket. We do have an open space at the back of the school which was a field before sharing with Langa High School.

The school excels in all sporting codes especially rugby and volleyball. our school has many rugby teams, starting from under 7 to under 13 both boys and girls. We are proud to tell you that each and every year we have one or two boys represent the school in the Western Province under 12 and 13 teams. We also took part in the annual under 12 touch rugby team which was organised by Norwich in Waterfront. The school recently took part in the launch of DHL Stormers new sponsor which was held in V&A Waterfront, where under 12 five a side touch rugby team won the tournament.
